Institut für Bildung und Kultur

The Institut für Bildung und Kultur e. V. (Institute for Education and Culture – ibk) was founded in 1984 as an institution for research and model development at the Akademie der Kulturellen Bildung (Academy for Cultural Education) of the Federal Government and the State of North Rhine-Westphalia in Remscheid. Numerous practical projects, specialist publications and international networking activities have been developed at the ibk. Senior cultural work has been a central field of work of the institute from the beginning.

Board of Directors

The ibk is a registered non-profit association. The members of the board are:

  • Gerda Sieben, Wuppertal (chairwomann)
  • Sybille Kastner, Duisburg (deputy chair)
  • Benjamin Thele, Cologne (deputy chair)

Focus of the ibk's work

Currently, almost all activities of the Institut für Bildung und Kultur are concentrated in the work of the competence centre kubia, of which the ibk is the responsible body. Other focal points are or were research and model projects on the following topics:

  • Further education of artists and broadening of professional fields
  • Intercultural and inclusive cultural work
  • Cultural competences in the changing labour society
  • New services and culture
  • Cross-border cultural projects
  • New media in education and culture
  • Cultural management
  • Cultural work in the region and in rural areas
  • Art in therapy and prophylaxis

The projects of the ibk are or were funded with state and federal funds, from foundations and funds from the European Union.
